Sustainable Self Care
Welcome to sustainable Self care.
Mental Health isn’t a one and done kind of thing, it needs continuous attending to. Self care can become so intricate that it is another impossible goal that you can not maintain. Sustainable Self Care is having a lot of little things that can put you back in the right frame of mind and put your best self forward.
What is sustainable Self care?
Well, sustainable Self care is around understanding how and when you can get into that secure spot where life is easy where, where you have a process or a method or a go to that you can use every day or every time that you need and it works and it puts you back into place where you can easily make decisions.
It puts you back in a secure spot where you can feel connected. It lets us process emotions.
We can start to let go of things with a little bit more ease. We can process our emotions with a little bit more ease. We can feel calm. We can be flexible in how we get to our end goal and we know our boundaries we’ve set our boundaries. We can explain our boundaries and we want to hold on to our boundaries. That is where we want to find ourselves.
That is what sustainable Self care can give you the places that we find ourselves when we don’t have sustainable Self care. Or if we’ve made our self care so intricate that we cannot apply it when we need to.
What happens without Self Care?

We can see ourselves fall into either controlling behaviour or car chaotic behaviour and one person can swing from control through to chaos back into control and every now and then they find themselves in the sweet spot, which is in the secure spot where everything rolls off your back, you’re feeling in flow you’re feeling in the groove. You can make choices that are best for you.
What happens when we’re not in the secure spot?
Well, decisions can be harder to make if we’re sitting in control that behaviour looks like restrictive practices. We might be restricting it anywhere. Might be restricting our kids play time we may be restricting or making up rules for yourself to go by. There can be action for action’s sake. Somebody that cannot sit still they need to be doing. They do not like the silence because the silence means they have to start thinking. You have high expectations. You can be agitated, there is a lack of emotional control. You can feel frustrated. You are saying no to all the things.
Especially things that you feel like you will not be able to control once you are there, if you say yes to. You can be feeling physically uptight. You’ll be making up arbitrary rules and I have seen a lot of mad cleaning.
What’s the opposite of being in control – is being in chaos.
Chaos is the opposite of control. You find yourself saying yes to everything you overload your time. You become disorganised because you are time poor, you are late to meetings late to appointments. This becomes an overwhelm. You have little emotional response, or your emotional response is massive. You tend to start numbing yourself. You may find yourself crying as a body’s way of releasing. You have no expectations of the world.
You may have very little motivation, a lot of procrastination and a lot of sleepiness, you’re feeling tired.
You may often spring from control control control, realise that there is nothing that you can control, give up and swing down into chaos and just let everything reign free and still not feel happy because you’re not in that secure space.
What is Sustainable Self Care for?
The BBMe Sustainable Self Care group is around finding that sweet spot finding those processes and that methods that means you are going to be feeling connected to yourself to your purpose.
You can be feeling calm in a state in a time of adversity and you can let the past go and you’re not worried about the future. You are very much in the present, decisions can be made easily and with confidence
I’d be very interested to know if anybody has an existing Self care routine that they’re using at the moment. Let me know in the comments.
Finding the sweet spot is basically my work with Better Being Me, understanding what your control behaviour looks like. What your chaotic behaviour looks like and how you can get into that secure sweet spot.
